RESOLUTION  HR1057                  By: Calvey and Greenwood

 

AS INTRODUCED

 

A Resolution commending disaster relief workers for the vital role they performed on behalf of tornado victims; and directing distribution.

 

 

 

 

WHEREAS, on May 3, 1999, a series of deadly tornadoes caused incredible loss of life, injury and destruction throughout central Oklahoma; and

WHEREAS, in the wake of this catastrophe, professional and volunteer disaster relief workers responded immediately to aid the injured and displaced; and

WHEREAS, the efforts of these dedicated individuals were invaluable in dealing with a very traumatic situation; and

WHEREAS, the competency and compassion of these wonderful people set an example recognized nationwide for selfless dedication and professionalism in coping with a grave natural disaster; and

WHEREAS, these brave individuals, whose only thoughts were to help their fellow citizens, are persons to be admired for exhibiting values that are a credit to this state.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 2ND SESSION OF THE 47TH OKLAHOMA LEGISLATURE:

THAT the professional and volunteer disaster relief workers who responded so quickly and competently to the disaster caused by the May 3, 1999, tornadoes that devastated central Oklahoma are hereby commended for the vital role they performed on behalf of the victims of this terrible event.

THAT copies of this resolution be dispatched to the Salvation Army, Feed the Children, the Oklahoma City and Heart of Oklahoma Chapters of the American Red Cross, Project Heartland, the Oklahoma National Guard, the United States Post Office, the Department of Civil Emergency Management, Pathfinders Search and Rescue, EMSA, Tinker Air Force Base, Oklahoma Natural Gas Company, Oklahoma Gas and Electric Company, the City of Moore, the Moore Fire Department, the Moore Police Department, Cleveland County Assessor Denise Heavener, Cleveland County Commissioners Bill Graves, George Skinner and Leroy Krohmer, Cleveland County Sheriff F. DeWayne Beggs, Moore Ministerial Alliance, Moore Youth and Family Services, Del City High School Relief Coordinators Barbara Dooley and Nancy Spencer, the Del City Fire Department, the Del City Police Department, the City of Del City, Luby's, T.G.I. Friday's, the A.L.E.R.T.
