2007 News

7 Dec 2007

As 2007 comes soon to a close, Pathfinder Search and Rescue wants to thank all of our supporters throughout this last year.  Pathfinder SAR completes it's best year to date with many good things happening and some sad moments.

Our partnership with local Law Enforcement was outstanding this year.  Pathfinder more than tripled it's call out's for missions in 2007.  This was made possible by our work and cooperation with many agencies at the state and local level.

Companies support whether it was donations or use of facilities was outstanding for our team, and we look forward to partnering with them again in 2008, to make our state a better place for missing persons and Search and Rescue.

Pathfinder Search and Rescue will now be using the American Safety & Health Institute for all CPR, First Aid and associated training.  The addition of Lisa Bennett as an ASHI Instructor will insure team skills stay current at all times.  Lisa will be training other team members in the next few months as instructors.

We had to say goodbye to yet another friend and partner.  Ace, handled by Debra Potter, passed way with bone cancer.  Ace was one of Pathfinders first dogs and will be sorely missed as we move forward to an even brighter and promising future.

Thank You to everyone that has helped our organization get to where it is today.  I cannot list everyone as the list would be huge.

Corporate Supporters, Law Enforcement, Team Advisor's, and Teammates.  Thanks for the support and hard work.

A special thank you to:

Ed Kostiuk, a man devoted to the betterment of Search and Rescue as a whole.

Stacey Puckett a true friend and partner in making Oklahoma a better place to live.

8 Nov  2007

Lisa Bennett completed the American Safety & Health Institute's Basic Instructor Course this week.  Her completion of this four day course will advance our team members training without the need for outside instructors in several core / critical areas.

16 Oct 2007

Ace crossed Rainbow Bridge on 15 Oct 2007.

Ace was diagnosed with bone cancer in his right rear leg.  Further medical test revealed the cancer was very aggressive, advanced and had moved into his lungs and other organs.

Ace’s drive and youthful nature was a joy at training and on missions.  The orthopedic specialist said the cancer was at least three years in its progression.  Yet Ace never showed any signs of being ill, working until his leg gave out due to inflammation from loss of bone mass.  A true friend, teammate, partner and SAR Hero to the very end.

6 Oct 2007

Lisa Bennett completed the State of Oklahoma's Basic Instructor Development course, previously called Train the Trainer.  We are all very proud of her accomplishment and what she will bring to the team.

Pathfinder Search and Rescue would like to congratulate the following handlers and canines for passing their wilderness night search test in very difficult conditions.  All handlers had unique scenarios and specific problems to work through.  Well done to all.  We also want to thank the victims who volunteered to assist in our training.

Pathfinder Search and Rescue members attended the Oklahoma Association of Chiefs of Police bi-annual convention at the Ardmore Convention Center.  This years theme was Safari to the Future.  We talked with several agencies on our teams capabilities and how we can work with them to better assist them and the citizens of Oklahoma.  We want to especially thank Jim Cox and Stacey Puckett for their outstanding support of our organization.

6 June 2007

Pathfinder Search and Rescue now has a new tool for Search and Rescue missions.  We have completed the modifications to our new Mobile Command Post.  The new trailer is equipped with a 4000 KW generator, laptop computer (with Topographic Map Capability), color printer, radio base station, handheld radios, large storage rack, several equipment hooks for loose gear, 5ft table, large dry erase board and numerous equipment items to assist in SAR operations.  The new trailer and equipment allows our team to be more prepared and equipped to serve Oklahoma as a premier resource for state aid when requested.  The trailer, radios and several other equipment items where made possible by a grant from the Brambles Corporation.

28 May 2007

Pathfinder Search and Rescue has reached over ten thousand children with our Sit and Stay program since our teams inception.  We our very proud of this accomplishment and look forward to many more in the years to come.

16 May 2007

Kay Dawson with Oberon and Lisa Bennett presented our Sit and Stay at career day at Central Elementary School in Moore, Oklahoma.  The focus was on careers in Emergency Management and to teach the children what to do if they ever get lost. All had a good time.

14 Apr 2007

Congratulations to Kay and Ila for completing their runaway training today.

23 Jan 2007

Pathfinder Search and Rescue Team members Kay Dawson with Oberon and Debra Potter spent the evening with the Oklahoma State University, Veterinary School of Medicine.  They spoke to a group of approximately 60 undergraduate students.  Topics included information about our organization, search and rescue in general.  They also had time to do two searches, one each in cadaver and scent discrimination.  All had a good time and we were honored to be guest speakers for this great institution.  Of course Oberon played the audience like an old pro.
